Today’s writing prompt really moved me: Pick a random word and do Google image search on it. Check out the eleventh picture it brings up. Write about whatever that image brings to mind.
Here’s the picture:
Here’s what it made me think of:
My friend, A, is going through a very difficult time in her life right now. She’s seen challenges, sure, but this time is different. I was reading her posts on social media and they worried me, a lot! I’ve been messaging her and getting some response, but even those lead me to believe she is in the darkest place she’s ever experienced.
The only thing that comes to my mind when I read her words is complete and utter despair. It feels beyond depression and touched with shame and guilt; which is maybe why she is unwilling to talk to me—I know her, well.
Last weekend her posts concerned another friend of hers; so much so, that this friend called the local police to do a well check on her. She was not well, as I knew, and the police took her to the hospital for help. I messaged “A” and she gave me some of the details. She will follow-up with suggestions from the hospital to get some support, I hope.
Depression and despair, shame and guilt, are insidious emotions and can easily overcome someone. I don’t know anyone who’s never experienced this in some for or other. For those of us who find we cannot do it on our own, worlds of options for support exist.
Today’s thank you goes out to the friend of A’s who had enough presence of mind to call for help for her. It also goes out to the many, many professionals who support people when they are in crisis, thank you!

Thanks so much for the link back. Sending best wishes to your friend. The one thing I know for certain, is that all things change. Eventually grey clouds will let a little sunshine in.
