There are power suits for job interviews, cute outfits for a first date, new school clothes with that first-day-of-school smell; all of which have the power to instill a level of confidence like no other time in our lives. I will tell you though, when I was my most confident…my best confidence outfit was:
Something old: A St. Theresa’s medal that was my grandmother’s and on loan from my Auntie Tina, was pinned specially to the inside of my dress.
Something new: My dress, bought by my mother. I tried on three and this was the second. I knew the moment I put it on, stepped up on the pedestal, and looked at my Mom and sisters.
Something borrowed: My pearls and earrings were my something borrowed from my sister-in-law, Judi.
Something blue: The requisite bridal garter with a light blue ribbon.
Beyond the traditions: The shoes, ordered from weddingshoes.com (no kidding), enough of a heel to say I wore heels, but low enough that I would fall as I walked down the aisle. The veil, beautiful, with little crystals along the hem that matched the ones on my dress. And then there was the hair…check it out!
My friend Jo Ann spent two visits in the salon with me prior to the big day practicing with styles. The final product was amazing. I didn’t know there could be that many bobby pins in my hair at one time.
Everyone should feel their most confident on their wedding day! All of the people who helped me to feel that way: my Mom, sisters, sisters-in-law, Auntie, and friends…Thank you!
