Fall Magic

I recently took a walk on a bright, warm and sunny, fall afternoon.  To me the colors of fall in New England are “Magic“!  But this one, once I made some changes with the Pixlr app, looked just as magical as anything I’d snapped in color.  It’s Queen Anne’s Lace which grows everywhere around me, particularly on the edge of wooded areas near my home. In the summer, the plant is a beautiful bright white against it’s green stem and leaves.  Now that we’re deep into the fall, all that remained is the dry brown stem and beige flower.  I did take a bunch of shots of colorful leaves, too; but, I’ll save them for another day.  Enjoy!

Magical Bloggers:

Always, Always Later

We all procrastinate. Website, magazine, knitting project, TV show, something else — what’s your favorite procrastination destination?

My favorite procrastination destination:

elliptical

Typically, I can find any and all reasons imaginable to keep me away from exercising.  Last spring we brought the elliptical up from the basement, gave it a little tune-up and I started to use it.  And then I stopped, and started, and stopped again.  As I look for inspiration to get back on the horse, as it were, I’ve been following a couple of friends on Facebook who’ve really made the commitment to their fitness goals.

They each post pictures of their little victories, daily accomplishments, and words of wisdom.  I’m trying to pay special attention to that last part, even if the two of them have always been a reasonably healthy weight I find their tips quite insightful.  These two special ladies get my thanks today! (And today I got my exercise on!)

Reminder of What’s Necessary for a Successful Life

People who make an impact on our lives–the ones who teach us what we can do and what we can’t; how to do something and how not to.  Have you thanked anyone like this in your life?  We need everyone who walks into our lives for one reason or another.  Without them, we might have become very different people.  Cheers!

Post 99

I’ve been thinking more about the content for tomorrow’s post, day #100, than I have about today’s, so I’ m finding it difficult to identify a topic for today.

The inspiration for blogging for 365 days in a row actually came from watching the movie Julie and Julia.  If you haven’t seen it, take a look, it’s quite enjoyable– really well acted and interesting.  It’s the story of  a woman who cooks her way through Julia Child’s cookbook and then posts her thoughts, pictures, anything really, about the dish(es) for the day.   While watching the movie and in the months that followed, I thought:  I can write a blog, I have something to say.  How difficult could it be really, to write something every day?

Frankly, there are days when it’s quite easy and days that are not so.  When I find myself struggling, I think back to that movie and how, on the most difficult days the character, Julie, still cooked and then blogged about it.  She was committed to her followers and seeing the project through to the end.  I feel the same way.

I don’t necessarily have a huge number of followers, but some people have said they read faithfully every day.  So those of you who have subscribed to get up dates, take the time to read my posts, and “like” or comment on my posts, today’s thank you goes out to you.  I will keep writing!

Sunshine Award, Cool!

I didn’t get into doing this blog with any purpose other than to thank people who’ve been a part of my life in one way or another. My husband tells me every day, “You’re going to really help someone who reads these posts.”

sunshine-awardMuch to my surprise and delight, I received a lovely email/comment on one of my posts. I’ve been nominated by another blogger for a Sunshine Award. She writes, The Silence In Between Counts, a heartfelt and personal narrative that I’ve enjoyed reading.  Here’s some of what she wrote: “I was nominated for the Sunshine Award. As part of the nomination, I have to nominate ten others and when it comes to bloggers who brighten my day, I think of you. You’re writing and topics have been inspirational to me in a dark time. So I nominate you.”

Wow, what a compliment!  Thank you to the blogger who nominated me! I have so enjoyed writing these thank you’s every day. I could not be more tickled that there are people, besides my family and friends, who have found my words “inspirational”.
Now I will pass the sunshine along to some others!

The rules are:
1. Include the Sunshine Award icon in your post
2. Link to the blogger who nominated you
3. Answer 10 questions about yourself
4. Nominate 10 other bloggers to receive the award
5. Link to your nominees and let them know you nominated them.
6. Answer the 10 questions at the bottom and create 10 questions for your nominees to answer.

So 10 Questions About Me:
1. If you could live anywhere in the world, where?
Here, in Rhode Island. I love where I live. I am close by to family and friends. I can take a quick drive to be in the mountains or at the beach. Most of all I think I love the change of seasons here in New England; so I’m stayin’ put.

2. Is there something that scares you?
Heights and bridges. Crazy, probably no rational reason for it, but there it is.

3. Why did you start blogging?
I wanted to find a way to acknowledge people who’ve somehow impacted who I am and what I’ve become. Perhaps because I turned 50 this year.

4. What is your proudest moment?
Hmm, not sure. College graduation was a big one.

5. Who inspires you?
People who overcome challenges. More importantly though, my family–every one of them!

6. You are a superhero. What are your powers?
Ease someone else’s pain.

7. What is the best book you’ve ever read?
Ever; there are a couple both my Chris Bohjalian: Water Witches and The Double Bind; and if I can pick one more of his it would be TranSister Radio.

8. If you they made a movie of your life and you got to pick the lead to play you…who would you cast?
I don’t know how I could pick anyone but my favorite actress, Julia Roberts!

9. What’s your favorite season?
Fall.

10. What’s your ideal relaxation spot?
My new porch swing that my husband made me this week!
