Summer Solstice–Kevin’s Day

Today’s Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere). How are you taking advantage of the extra hours of light this time of year? Do you like it, or do you already miss earlier sunsets?

Today is my brother Kevin’s birthday.  Much the same way my birthday will always fall on St. Patrick’s Day, his will always be the Summer Solstice.  It wasn’t until today’s writing prompt that I gave much thought to how lucky he is to have such a day to celebrate.

When March 17th rolls around (my birthday), daylight savings time has yet to begin; so the day for celebrating feels short.  And although there is plenty of green beer and green foods to get me through the celebration, it still feels like quite a limited time to acknowledge the day I was born.  Kevin, on the other hand, has more than 12 hours of daylight to do with what he wishes!

It was a gorgeous day here in Rhode Island; just the right temperature, humidity non-existent, light breeze and sunshine.  A great day for Kevin to do something fun, satisfying…just what he wanted to.  Thank you to a very good  brother, son, uncle and dad; you are wished the happiest of birthdays!
